ASTER SHIRT SEWING PATTERN
—
Pattern: Aster Shirt by Colette Patterns
Fabric: Flowery Chant Rayon in Subtle, Art Gallery, HERE
Thoughts on pattern:
While I usually love Seamwork and Colette Patterns, I was a tad disappointed in how this shirt turned out. Perhaps it was user error, but I don’t love the way the front neckline drags, and the top of the button placket is less than perfect. That being said, while wearing the top I can simply pull the neckline up a bit – and it hangs much better. The placket simply tends to pull the front down, which causes the gaping at the neckline. So I find myself readjusting the shirt more often than I would like. But the fit is fabulous, and I love the way it looks on. A nice change of pace for me as I tend not to wear shirts with button plackets – mainly because they always pull in the chest area. But I loved the loose flow on this shirt and wanted to give it a go. I had to adjust from a size 6 chest to a size 10 waist – eek! I am not sure if I would sew this shirt again, but you never know. I will still wear the one I made though, as I love the fabric and it still looks nice on – so it’s not a total bust. Just not my fave pattern to date – and thats ok. Quite frankly, it was just really nice to sew something after a month long hiatus. <3, which makes it loved my default. 🙂 Techniques This Pattern Can Teach You:
- Button plackets
- Bias tape for neckline
- Curved hems
- Flowy sleeves (which I love).
*And of course other basic sewing essentials – these were simply the ones that go beyond the basics IMO.
XOXO,
Jessica
