This Christmas I am trying really hard to be extra thoughtful with my presents and gift giving. I find great joy in giving, but I didn’t want to give just anything this year. Often times I find that I get caught up in the business of the Season, and will find myself just buying what is on sale instead of putting a little extra thought into the process. This year I declared enough was enough. I didn’t need to try to check all of my to-do boxes, I simply needed to relax and let the right presents find my attention at the right time. This has meant some more handmade gifts, as people complimented me on something I was wearing. Or looking in places not normally shopped at, like off-beat magazines or blog post round ups for niche groups. And while in years past this would have totally stressed me out, I have found the opposite to be true this year. (Now that is not to say that I don’t have overwhelming moments, where I melt down like a stressed out crazy person…I am only human after all.) But some how, some way, I am finding the time to get it all done – while still being PRESENT for my kids in moments of Christmas magic.
One of the things I have found true in life, is that sometimes it is the little things that make something truly special.
When I was wrapping a present for a friend, I noticed that next to that present was some Therm O Web Deco Foil sitting on the desk. As a brand ambassador for Therm O Web, I get sent some pretty cool swag (most recently, their Deco Foil holiday collection.) On a whim, I decided to pick it up and try it out. Lo and behold, I absolutely LOVED the result. I found myself adding these foil transfer sheets to basic presents for under the tree, to gift tags, and probably my absolute fave – to brown paper packages I was mailing out! I mean, imagine you were getting a package in the mail and it came with your name all shiny and sparkly on the outside. How awesome would that be?!!
How to add Pressed Foil to your Christmas Gifts and Packages
As mentioned previously, I am a brand ambassador for Therm O Web. I stand by Therm O Web products whole heartedly. I have used their products for many years now in my sewing studio, and highly recommend their adhesives, interfacings, and new deco foils. This is a paid post by Therm O Web, in which product and compensation was provided for the content of this post. All instructions, project ideas, and photos are my own. Thank you!
Now, the coolest thing about these Deco Foil sheets and this whole process, is that it is SUPER EASY to do.
I am not kidding when I say it took me less than 2 minutes to do each package, and I am a total novice. The Deco Foil Adhesive Pen was my best friend, as it dried super fast and allowed me to simply write like I normally would. But if you are a die cutter fanatic, and can’t live without your Cricut our Silhouette – they have adhesive sheets for that as well.
I decided to show you just how easy it was in video format, AND photographed below (in case you would prefer a quick glance).
DECO FOIL VIDEO DIY:
DECO FOIL PHOTO DIY:
- Get your products ready.
- For font inspiration (I find it easier to write if I can see how I want it to look), I type out the name I want to recreate in my font graphics Word Swag ap, and copy it visually.
- Write the name as desired using the Deco Foil Adhesive Pen and allow 30 seconds to dry.
- Cut a piece of foil to size, and place foil with the colored side up on top of your glue name.
- Using a credit card or other flat edge, scrape foil.
- Lift foil up when finished to see end result. If places were missed, you can replace the foil on top of the design and scrape again in needed areas.
And you are finished!
I wish I could be there to see their faces when the packages are delivered :). At least I got to see this little bit of Christmas magic, when my kids realized there was a Santa mailbox at our local post office!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
