For the longest time, I used to be embarrassed telling people that I made my children’s clothing. It wasn’t that I didn’t love sewing, I was actually rather proud of my creations and felt a great spring of love seeing my children wearing them! It was more that I didn’t feel comfortable over the response my reply elicited. The, ‘you MADE that?!!’, always made me squirm.
It’s amazing just how much you learn from your children though, that through their little eyes you can see so much bigger. My eldest daughter changed my perspective. Whenever someone would compliment her clothes, be it stranger or friend, she would promptly and proudly declare, ‘My Mommy Made it!’.
It didn’t matter if every stitch was perfectly even or if the hem was straight, my daughter saw none of those things. All she saw was the handmade creation that I lovingly made FOR HER. She felt loved in her new dress because her Mommy made it for her, and she couldn’t wait to tell everyone who asked. To her, it was like a reciprocation of the endless handmade drawings she made me on a daily basis. A masterpiece of love.
My daughter is older now, but the memory lives on. And even at 10, she still proudly tells anyone who asks that her ‘Mommy Made it’. So perhaps this post is a bit of nostalgia, but it gives me great joy to sew this message of love into my children’s clothing now.

*Having tried other at-home fabric printing methods, such as the freezer paper method, I have found that using this HeatnBond EZ Print Lite works much better. The corners of the fabric did not curl while printing, nor did the ink smudge. I highly recommend trying this product over the freezer paper method.
Positive message clothing labels
Sewing words of encouragement and positivity to strengthen your child throughout the day
On that same vein, I wanted to sew other words of positivity into my children’s clothing. We only have our children for so long, and during that time it is our job to pour into them love, hope, joy, knowledge, strength, wisdom, and so much more. Nobody is going to love our children like we do as parents, and in fact – the world is going to do its best to try to knock it out of them.
Disagree? Just look at how our society is handling women these days – with lesser pay grades, people getting off almost scot-free for female brutality, and more.
I will not just sit back and let anyone tell my daughter that she is not worthy, or less than all that God has created her to be. So as I send her out into the world, to school or after school activities, I want to make sure that I am sowing/sewing seeds and messages of positivity to be with her all throughout the day. Because this girl right here? This girl is the absolute image of joy. She makes my heart sing, and brings laughter to everyone she encounters. She is a bubbling brook of sunshine to all she encounters, and I pray her light continues to SHINE all the days of her life.

Great post. By White cotton material, do you mean a cotton fabric? I’m just not sure which fabric to purchase that can be printed on?
yes, I used a basic white cotton fabric!
this is good idea :))) but ı am confused, is this fabric basic cotton fabric and it can be print household type printer?
This is wonderful. I have tried the freezer paper method with something similar to this. My problem was excessive fading. Is there a way to keep the quality of the print? Or do these sheets help to retain it? Thanks in advance.
H,i I am making a mens suit for my daughter’s wedding at the moment & I would be proud to have a label that says:
Made by my Dad
David Macleod.
This label can also be made on the quilting designs I make too. Please can you make such a page for me and other Dads that make for their children too. She would really love a label on her wedding dress that say this. I do hope you can email this to me as soon as possible, as I did sign up for your newsletter. Thanks from me. David Macleod.
Love those labels – I’d like to have some for my use ” Made for me by Grandma”. I suppose I could use the same process but this is new territory for me. I’ll reach out if I get stuck.. Thanks
