I don’t even know if you could consider this a sewing tutorial, it is THAT easy. Funny story though…
When pre-shirred or pre-smocked fabric first came on the market, I remember looking at it and thinking – eww. Who would buy that? Well, apparently my Mom would buy it. She realized it’s glorious wonderfulness long before I did – and bought it to make some cute and easy sundresses for my girls. 20 minutes later, she had a super easy smocked dress for my daughter. I still kind of cringed at it (for some reason unbeknownst to me now that I think back). I think maybe a part of me felt like it was ‘cheating’. Like, the dress would’ve been better if she had sewn her own shirred lines. I was being stupid. So, so stupid. Because as it turned out, my daughter asked to wear that simple shirred sundress EVERY DAY that summer.
She would bypass that loving, handmade creations that took me hours upon hours to make – and skip right on to that simple, easy shirred sundress. LESSON LEARNED.
It doesn’t have to take a million hours, and have intricate details, for someone to love your handmade creation. It simply has to suit their taste and style. And for my kids, that means simple shirred sundresses.

It’s the it always that way? Some times I wonder why I attempt the more difficult projects because my kids always fall in love with the things that look no time at all.
The busier my life gets, the more I appreciate those quick projects! I’ve got a Craft Gossip post scheduled for tomorrow evening that features your tutorial: http://sewing.craftgossip.com/?p=88492 –Anne
