This post will totally bum you out. In fact, if you want to be happy and cheery today – I suggest you look away. Am I being completely melodramatic? Yes. Are there bigger issues in life? Obviously.
But I stumbled across these photos, and thought they were absolutely lovely in just how sad they actually are.
Abandoned sewing machines.
Don’t you feel just a little bit sadder after having looked at them? How could somebody do something like this?
I actually have gotten rid of a sewing machine myself, donating it to the Salvation Army. And it was such a hard decision to make! It wasn’t working all that well, and it probably just needed a good tuning at the repair shop. But I had a new machine already, and decided that I would give it to somebody else to fix.
But just leaving it on the side of the road? It’s almost like seeing kittens in a box that says ‘free’. It makes you happy that you have the opportunity to get a free kitten, but sad that somebody would just give them away like that.
Anyway, sorry for the detour to sad-ville folks. I just saw these photos and had to share. They touched a chord in me. Am I alone?
How do they make you feel?
I agree with you. I would have adopted that rusty old machine on top of the hill. Did you bring it home? To me it’s screaming wild flowers and a sunny window.
Your funny. Things we think about. Life. Good times.
While traveling the 127 Sale this summer, I came across of ton of these machines. One specific machine really tugged at my heart strings. It was buried under construction materials, left out in the open elements and covered in a thick layer of dust. Even under all that, it still looked beautiful!
These are lost treasures just waiting for someone to breathe new life into them again.
I always feel it is such a shame particularly if they are usable. I have a urge to rescue and find new homes (maybe this is why I hoard stuff!)
YES! I want to take them all and clean them, maybe paint them with bright happy colors, stripe them with Washi tape and make them feel loved. I have 2 machines and I’m looking at another now. All are second hand. I love them! My husband collects Hot Wheels, I collect sewing machines. I want to have enough to have little sewing parties for kids. I think all kids should learn to sew. Such valuable knowledge.
We found an old sewing machine just this weekend. Sitting by the curb! There was a note on the top that said “Bad worn gear”. I grabbed it up and my sweet husband is going to replace the worn gear for me. I already have two sewing machines, don’t need another, but I just want to see this machine working again.
