I thought it would be cute to sew quilted bunny ears to WEAR. Like a cute Easter headband kind of thing.
I couldn’t get these ears to stay up to save my life…so they became home decor. And I must admit, I like them this way. They make my table look cute and ready for Spring! It is one of those…make it work moments.
Quilted Bunny Ears DIY
A handmade Easter home decor idea
How to sew quilted bunny ears
(That will not stand up on your head, but will make adorable home decor! Lol)
- 1/3 yard fabric
- Batting or poly-fil
- Pipe cleaners
- Basic sewing essentials
Step one – Cut (4) bunny ear shapes. Place 2 right sides together, pin and sew the outer edges, leaving the bottom open. Trim seams, turn right side out and press. Repeat for other 2 ears. Insert pipe cleaners and align them along the seams. Sew using your zipper foot to create a ‘casing’ around the pipe cleaner.
Step Two – Stuff ears with poly-cil or batting cut to size. Quilt the ears as desired. Make a pleat in the bottom of the ear, pin and baste stitch to secure. Cut (1) piece of fabric 7″L x width of fabric. Determine the middle of your fabric, and pin raw bottom edges of ears to the left and right of the center of your fabric.
Step Three – Fold rectangle of fabric in half, right sides together, matching up the long outer edge. Pin and sew, encasing the ears within the middle. Trim ears raw edge, and turn right side out. Press rectangle, with the seam in the top middle. Press around the top and bottom of both ears.
Step Four – Pin the ear to the top of your rectangle of fabric and do a quick stitch back and forth to secure in place.
Tie around your lamp shade, chair back, pillow, or more! And you have a cute, REMOVABLE, Easter decoration.
A happy sewing accident.
