Give your shoes a kick with this fun bow tie DIY. With just a little bit of fabric, you can turn any old pair of shoes into something fabulous and fun for your feet! I happened to have a couple pairs of super comfortable leopard flats lying around, after having been given a pair from my sister…and realized that they would be perfect to play around with. What I didn’t know was just how much I would absolutely LOVE THEM after I did. Woot woot. Who doesn’t love new shoes? Especially when they didn’t cost you a dime. 🙂
Turning old into new. Yesssssssss
How to add a bow to your shoes || bow tie flats DIY.
Materials Needed:
- Shoes
- 1/4 yard fabric
- Basic sewing essentials
- Fabric glue *optional
How to add bow ties to your shoes:
Step one – Cut out (8) pieces of fabric that are 3.5″ wide x 9″ long. Shape the tops so that they form an arced triangle of sorts. Pin (2) triangles right sides together and sew side seams. Trim seams and turn right side out, pushing out the point with a blunt object. Press and repeat for other triangles.
Step Two – Create a pleat along the bottom raw edge of your triangle and sew to secure. Trim off excess seam allowance. Sew a small zigzag stitch directly over you raw edge to finish seam. Repeat for other triangles.
Step Three – Try your shoes on and determine where you want the bow tie placement. Pin bow ties in place on either side. If you feel comfortable with you sewing machine, use a heavy duty universal needle to sew. If not, use fabric glue and binder clips to hold in place until dry.
And you are finished!
