What kind of Grinch play costume designer would I be if I didn’t make Mr. Grinch a Christmas stocking?!! Lol.
The idea actually came to me when I was looking at the leftover Grinch fur, and wondering what I should do with it all. I did not want to waste this fabulous fabric – and then it hit me. Obviously the Grinch needed a stocking. Duh.
How to make a Grinch Christmas Stocking || Grinch Stocking DIY.
MATERIALS:
- Free Grinch Christmas stocking pattern (DOWNLOAD HERE)
- 2/3 yard green fur fabric (affiliate link)
- Heavy duty sewing needle
- Basic sewing essentials
HOW TO:
Step One – Print out Grinch stocking pattern and assemble. Cut out paper pattern pieces, and use pattern weights to place on top of fur fabric. Cut out (2) mirror image pattern pieces from fur fabric, using heavy duty fabric scissors to cut. Gently tug on cut sides of stocking pattern pieces to remove excess fur. Repeat for stocking loop.
Step Two – Place stocking pattern pieces right sides together and pin around. Sew, using a 1/2″ seam allowance, leaving the top of the stocking open.
Step Three – Turn stocking right sides out, and push out all curved edges. You can gently pull out any fur that is stuck in the seams.
Step Four – Fold stocking loop in half, wrong sides together, matching up the short ends. Baste stitch the bottom short ends together.
Step Five – Slip short basted ends of stocking loop inside the back stocking seam. Pin in place 1″ down from the top of the stocking and sew a straight stitch back and forth to secure.
And you are finished!
Have a very Grinch Christmas! Just remember, his heart grew 3 sizes that day :).
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
Happy sewing!
This is fantastical if only that I didn’t know I could buy this kind of fabric on amazon. I’ve been trying to make an outrageous green fur collar and it’s not made much progress until now.
