I hate it when my son gets sick. Every time he comes down with any sort of runny nose or sniffle, it always turns into a long, drawn out cold. You see – he has horrendous asthma and allergies. He gets that from me…lucky him. His poor lungs simply have a really hard time processing any virus he contracts. I can’t tell you the hours we have spent at the hospital in the middle of the night, in the emergency room waiting for doctors. As your Momma’s heart is just breaking, wishing there was absolutely anything you could do for your child to make it better.
There is nothing worse than listening to the wheezing breathing of a child with asthma. All you can do is sit and pray that this too shall pass. So when your sick son, who has been up 2 nights in a row with the croup cough, asks for a chipmunk costume to match his favorite Disney Chip stuffed animal…you do it.
(After you have searched the internet for the store bought version that is, only to find that they don’t sell that costume – lol.)
Kids Handmade Chipmunk Costume.
The look on his face was princess when I showed it to him the next morning. He was less than thrilled to take photos, but I just couldn’t help myself. I needed to remember him in this costume. My baby, in his chipmunk costume with his little Chip stuffed animal.
The same stuffed animal that brings me running into his room at night as he calls out, only to find out he is crying because he cannot find his little Chip. So we search at 2am until we find the 3″ toy, and he can go back to sleep. The same stuffed animal he clings to when he is sick, and hugs to make him feel better.
I wish I could say I did a DIY for this costume…but I was actually winging it as I sewed. I had no idea it would turn out this cute, as I only had a half-cooked plan when I started. Maybe if I ever find myself sewing the matching Dale costume I will rectify that. But for now, here is my little Chip. In his little handmade costume. And I just can’t stand the cuteness.
Thankfully, he is finally starting to feel better. And after a week out of school, I believe he will be back tomorrow. Praise the Lord.
Until next time…
