No-Sew Monster Backpack DIY

This DIY is like a two-birds-with-one-stone kind of things. Not only are backpacks perfect for Back to School, but the monsters are perfect for the upcoming Halloween season! Woo hoo! A total win / win. A fun way to personalize a plain backpack, and let your kids have some fun.

All you need is various colors of your favorite duck tape and a pair of scissors, and you can have a customized fun kids backpack in less than 30 minutes. The best part? Your kids will love them because they helped MAKE them. All for the fraction of the cost of those character backpacks. Let me show you how to DIY.

Skill Level: Kid friendly, beginner
Time Needed: 30 minutes

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Basic Canvas Backpack*
  • Various colors of duck tape
  • Scissors

*You can pick these up at any major superstore for cheap, mine were only $3.95.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Duck Tape No-Sew Monster Backpack DIY
Step One: Cut out various shapes from the duck tape, i.e. teeth, eyes, tongue, etc.

For more complicated shapes, you can stick your duck tape to a cutting mat and go around with rotary cutters. Simply peel away the shape when finished!

Step Two: Apply duck tape shapes to backpack and smooth out any wrinkles.

And you are finished!

*Please note, you will need parental guidance for these steps.

Step Three: Cut out shape from sturdy cardboard.

Step Four: Wrap shape with duck tape, covering the cardboard FULLY.

Step Five: Using your seam rippers, gently unpick a few seam stitches in the area you want your shape to stick up.

Step Six: Stick the bottom of your shape inside the now-open seam, and sew closed using a heavy duty sewing needle (such as 100/16 regular point). Repeat for additional shapes.

And you are finished!
