The theme for my family this Summer / Fall is ‘good vibes only’. Like everyone else in the world, we have a ton of nutso situations going on around our lives. And we live, breath, and deal with them on a daily basis the best we can. But what do I want to focus on? The GOOD stuff. I want to poor my energy into things that bring joy into our world. Things that I simply look at and smile, the kind of stuff that makes your heart happy.
This fabric kind of embodies that to me. I took one look at “ojo de dos” in Pink by Alexander Henry, which mean’s God’s eye, and couldn’t stop smiling. THIS FABRIC to me is quite simply, pure joy. It needed to be made into a circle skirt.
I have certainly made my fair share of circle skirts in the day, I mean – what is not to love about this super easy skirt? They are fast to sew, slimming at the waist, and perfect for wearing when you want to be comfortable and still look cute! Circle skirts are a go-to favorite in my house, which is why I flipped when I saw this template on Pinterest.
Circle skirts just got easier.

Happy Sewing!
I am in the process of making a circle skirt now and having such a hard time hemming it. I have it pinned but it won’t lay straight at all. I am trying to keep the seams in line but the rest of the material just won’t lay flat. Do you have any advice for me on how to hem the circle skirt? Thank you!
I have a secret Debbie when it comes to curved hems, like a circle skirt, I CHEAT!!! I actually do not pin at all, but rather fold the fabric as I sew, curving while I sew. I find this to be really easy – and then I press later. If you aren’t comfortable trying that – you should check out this tutorial by Colette – everything she does is professional and fabulous!

Thanks so much!
Debbe, you might try sewing a straight stitch 1/4 inch away from the edge, iron the hem up right at the stitch line and then turn in another 1/4 in and ease everything in. Because part of the skirt is cut on the bias is doesn’t want to lay flat but the straight stitch helps flatten it out, Otherwise you could use some bias tape to hem it. Good luck!
Yes, that is the way I have done anything circular
Thanks all! I took a look t the college link. I was going to give my circle skirt a 3.5 inch hem because it’s too long, and use a blind hem foot. It looks like that’s not the right approach. Should I not give it such a deep hem and just turn it up twice, using the basting stitch instead? I guess I can use my pattern to cut the skirt so I don’t lose the line. Does that sound right?
I would think that because of the way the skirt is cut a deep hem will throw off how it drapes (that makes sense in my head anyway). If you want to get rid of the extra length do a straight stitch in 3.25 in, and then trim your fabric and then just continue on with your tiny hem, Someone else may have an easier idea.
Wow, such a beautiful skirt… Very eye-catching with many bright colors. I can’t wait to try sewing one for my own. 🙂 Thank you for your post!
