Traditional Flag Bunting DIY

I know when we hear the word bunting, we think of the banners that have taken the craft world by storm the past few years. This is NOT that kind of bunting post. We are talking traditional flags here, the kind that hang with pride on our homes each year as holidays like Memorial Day and Independence Day roll around. THAT flag bunting.

INSTRUCTIONS:

How to make a classic patriotic flag bunting for your home decor
Step One: Cut (1) 10”L x 44”W from each fabric.

Step Two: Place the red and white fabric right sides together matching up all edges. Pin and sew one long edge. Place the white and blue fabric right sides together, pin and sew the long raw edge. Finish the seams with either a serger, zig zag stitch or pinking shears and press.

Step Three: Fold fabric in half right sides together, matching up the side seams. Pin the bottom blue edge and sew. Finish seam.

Step Four: Hem the bottom ‘curved’ edge by turning the bottom edge ¼” towards the wrong side and pressing. Turn again ½”, press and sew.

Step Five: Add the bias tape to the top edge of the red fabric, enclosing the raw edge inside of the bias tape fold. Leave 23” of bias tape hanging off each side of the bunting for tying later, with the top of the flag securely in the middle of the bias tape. Pin and sew the bottom bias tape edge to secure.

Step Six: At the top center of the flag, pinch the fabric from the top of the middle blue seam to the top center of the flag.

Step Seven: You may either bunch the fabric together, or fold it into pleats like I have.

Step Eight: Sew a quick line back and forth over the pinched fabric top center to secure.

And you are finished!

Hi Lisa – that was new fabric at my local Jo-Ann store! In the home decor section – it is actually quite fabulous, and 100% reversible! Really cool.

All you need is a paper clip to turn your mask into a bracelet, when you don’t need to use it but are still out and about. I wrote a blog post to show how easy it is. And even came up with another idea that is, dare I say it, even EASIER than this 🤪👊🏻. Link in bio - and thank you!
