No sugar, no cry.
Recently I gave up sugar for 21 days. I know, crazy right?!! At the time I thought I was giving up just chocolate, ice cream, and soda. Boy was I wrong. I had no idea just how much sugar I was ingesting on a daily basis, it was in everything I ate!!! The 21 day sugar-fast was a total wake up call for me. For the first 2 weeks, it was tough as freaking nails (not gonna lie). I went through major withdrawals, was a miserable grump, tired, had headaches – the works. But by the end of that 21 days, I had an epiphany…
I felt GREAT. I had more energy, my skin complexion looked really good, and I was sleeping better at night then I had in years. I realized I could live life without sugar if I wanted to.
1 month post-fast, and I am still ingesting sugar on a daily basis. But I have cut back drastically. No longer do I need all of the sugar substitutes I was using in my coffee, they suddenly taste too sweet to me. I don’t reach for my mid-afternooon chocolate snack anymore, nor do I drink nearly as much soda as I was. I am a strong believer of ‘everything in moderation’. And this sugar-fast was a big wake up call for me.
