I cannot believe I am giving away another dress pattern so soon after the Knot Dress, but I really wanted to publish this post well before Easter. Hopefully this will allot for plenty of time to sew your own kids handmade Easter dresses! I have always been so in love with the Madeline Dress e-Pattern. The creation of this ePattern was actually a happy accident. I wasn’t trying to achieve this look when I first started the drafting process – but you know how sewing goes. Sometimes, when things aren’t going exactly as planned…they end up BETTER. And I have loved this dress pattern ever since, and am super excited to be able to give it away here. After all of this time, hopefully it will become a favorite of yours as well.

Madeline Dress – Free Dress Pattern.
Download the free Pattern and Instructions HERE.
**I have updated the pattern a little, so you will see a few pages that look out of place. It is still an older looking pattern – but this is what they all looked like 4 years ago :).
I simply ask that you refer your friends to this page when wanting to share the pattern! Please do not e-mail the file directly. Why? Because you see those ads on the sidebar? That is how I get paid. ‘Pageview traffic’ is part of my salary, and I appreciate every single person who visits my site! So thank you, thank you for being here and for downloading the Madeline Dress, and for referring your friends to this site to do the same. It means the world to me :).
Also – you are more than welcome to sell dresses made by using this pattern. I would be absolutely delighted to know that I am helping a seamstress out there put food on her table in her handmade shop!
Why am I suddenly offering this pattern for free? What changed my mind???
You can see the explanation for that in this post HERE.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
Happy Sewing!
Thank you for the pattern! The dress looks lovely… 🙂
I love this dress!! I’ve got a Craft Gossip post scheduled for later this morning that links to your pattern: http://sewing.craftgossip.com/free-pattern-madeline-dress-for-little-girls/2015/03/23/

Thank you so much for sharing this adorable dress. I hope I can make fabric selections to achieve the sophisticated look you have modelled.
Eek, I also have a “Madeline Dress” pattern (been selling on etsy for some years). Hope there’s no confusion as mine’s not a free one! (Not claiming any naming rights, this is just for clarification……)
Hi Marina!
I understand your concern, Madeline is a popular name :). And this dress pattern has been around for years as well, and used to be for sale in my shop too! I don’t think there will be any confusion. Looking forward to seeing your pattern, I will have to check it out next time I am at a computer! Feel free to leave a link in a comment :). – Jess
Jess you’re awesome as usual! Super cute! And I almost named my second child Madeline. Turned out Jake was a more appropriate name! 🙂
Thank you for sharing this cute pattern and even allowing us to sell them. I can’t wait to try it! More blessings on your way 🙂
wow..how cute it is.i can’t wait to try tis pattern as soon as possible. thanks for sharing this cute little pattern.
hallo from Aceh to you..
I’m building quite the arsenal of dress patterns for little girls….without having a little girl of my own to sew for! I keep thinking that they’ll be great for gifts in the future, right? 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing these. And for being your awesome self. This dress is GORGEOUS.
I can’t wait to try this!
Thank you for your sharing. I used to buy the pattern from the store but I always confuse with the instruction. But the e- pattern is not hard for me to try. Thank you so much.
Un grand merci de France!
This dress is so adorable! It has so much personality. Love it in the linen. Thanks for sharing!
This dress will be a gorgeous dress for my granddaughter! Cannot wait to make it. Thank you for the free pattern.
Your pattern was on my list to buy, so i was very pleasantly surprised when i saw you are offering it for free. I just want to say thank you for your generosity! There are so many patterns that just dissapear once the designer gives up on selling them and it is à Pitt. I will be making it this week and I am sure my daughter will love it! Kudos for perfect design and sharing!
I krant “pitty” not Pitt….
Oh, and that was “meant”, not krant….spell checker is killing me…
Merci beaucoup pour ce patron . La robe est magnifique !!!!
I have just recently come across your site, it is wonderful. I love all your ideas and with twin granddaughters it has come in really handy. I am between a beginner and intermediate sewer and your patterns are perfect. Thanks
I love this dress – thank you for sharing!
A very nice dress!! Thank you very much for this free pattern!!!
I couldn’t download this free pattern. Please give me advise.
Hi, i love this dress pattern and wanted to get in quick and make one for my daughter before she is out of the size range. She tends to fin into a ‘size 5’ bodice but she’s 7 yrs old and tall. should i go with age 6 bodice and lengthen the skirt?? i’m eager for your response!

This pattern is so great! Thank you so much. I just made one for my little girls second birthday and it turned out perfect!!
Thanks!
Hi Jess thanks forthe free pattern i love it.I have one question…can i use zipper instead of buttons because its very difficult form me to make a button holes.if i use zipper i will add seam allowance to the center back?how much seam allowance i will add?
You absolutely can add a zipper, and I bet you it would look beautiful. As for the seam allowance, that would truly depend on how much you feel you need when adding zippers. I would measure the bodice circumference, then measure your child’s chest circumference and add 2 inches for ease to that measurement. Determine what you feel comfortable on extra seam allowance based on that. 🙂
Thanks for your prompt reply, maybe i can use the seam allowances for buttons.?
hi there! thank you for the cute dress pattern! is seam allowance included in this pattern? or do I add it? i am not the best sewer but want to try to make a dress for my daughter’s 2nd birthday!
Working on this one right now. This is the second one of your dresses that I am making for my granddaughter. You are talented and I’m grateful for your free patterns!
Thank you so much for this free pattern! I thought I’d challenge my beginner status with this lined bodice dress. A challenge it was but oh so much elation at actually finishing the project! (well, still have to learn how to make buttonholes, so partially completed. Since my granddaughter is only 8 days old, I’ve got a bit of time! LOL).
What I am very, very grateful for is that you provided options in your instructions without which I wouldn’t have got through to completion.
Adorable dress! Thank you so much for sharing! I made one for my granddaughter and she loves it. Wish I could show you a picture.
This dress is adorable and I can’t wait to try it out. Thank you so much for your kind generosity!!
This Madeline dress is gorgeous . I love the linen version that you show on your site. I made this dress for two nièces. (I haven’t any grand child yet. I practice in the meantime). I have pictures that I can send, if you want. Thank you so much for generously providing this pattern to all.
