Some of my very favorite memories are of Christmas past. Reminiscing of the magic that was the vintage warm lights, the nutcrackers and the yule log, and for me…the Noel signs. I thought it would be nice to incorporate a vintage-esque Noel sign in my home this year, and I absolutely love how it turned out! With vintage gem-studded bows on the ends, and golden glitter clothespins to hold up the sign – this Noel banner adds just the right amount of nostalgia to modern day decor.
Vintage Noel Bow Banner DIY.
- Download and print out ‘Noel’ Banner onto Cardstock HERE (trim paper to your desired size)
- 1 yard Silk fabric
- Fabric Glue
- Craft Wire (not shown)
Cut (2) 9” L rectangles (selvage to selvage), and (2) 8” rectangles (selvage to selvage).
You will have (1) small 2” strip leftover.
Step Two: Open up the rectangle so that it is only folded in half. Bring the (2) longer edges in half towards the back center. Then bring the sides in so that they meet and slightly overlap in the middle. Repeat for all (4) rectangles of fabric.
For the (2) 8” L rectangles, have the final middle overlap a bit more than the 9”. You want them to be shorter.
Step Three: Place (1) of the shorter rectangles directly on top of (1) of the larger ones. All of the back seams / folds should be on the bottom and hidden.
Cut a 10” piece of craft wire. Pinch the (2) rectangles together in the middle creating a bow shape. Wrap the craft wire tightly around the pinched center, wrapping the wire around itself in the back of the bow. Leave a lot of the craft wire ends dangling, as you will need to use them again.
Cut an 8” piece of fabric from your 2” leftover fabric strip. Fold in the long side edges towards the back center. Wrap around your bow center tightly, enclosing the raw edges. Wrap the craft wire around the back edges of your bow center to secure, and snip excess fabric. Make sure to leave more excess craft wire dangling as you will use this to hang on the wall.
Repeat for other (2) rectangles so that you have (2) finished bows.
Using the craft wire, attach the ribbon to the back of your bow, tying the ribbon to the wire and wrapping it around to secure. Repeat for both ends of the ribbon.
My ribbon is approximately 1 yard in length.
Simply attach the Noel sign with clothespins to your banner, and hang on the wall by wrapping the craft wire around your nail head!
*Tip -I use push pins in my wall so that I can easily take it down without leaving a big hole in the wall.
