Looking for a super easy last minute handmade gift? Take an old purse and give it new life with this quick DIY. All you need is some scrap fabric, paint, and glue to get going – all stuff you probably already have on hand! Add to that a steady hand, 10 minutes of work time, and about 2 hours of drying time and you are good to go! This bag was picked up for $7 at my local chain store, and makes a fabulous present holder for a little girl I know…double bonus points!
Fabric & Paint Embellished Bag DIY
MATERIALS:
- Plain fake leather/pleather bag
- Acrylic or leather paint
- Scrap Fabric
- Fabric Glue
- Paint brush
- Tape
HOW TO:
STEP ONE: Using a wet wash cloth, wipe down the front of your purse to make sure it is clean. Allow to dry fully.
STEP TWO: Cut the scrap fabric to your desired size. Using the fabric glue liberally, attach the fabric directly onto your purse. Smooth out fabric to make sure there are no wrinkles, and wipe away any excess glue. Fabric shown here is Wee Wander by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller Fabrics).
STEP THREE: With a fine tipped paint brush, you can personalize the purse with a steady hand and some acrylic paint. You can also paint nice and straight lines by using tape as your guide, and simply removing the tape when finished. Allow to dry fully.
And you are done!
