One of the reasons I love working with a vinyl like fabric, is for its ease of use. Vinyl doesn’t fray like other fabrics, and can easily wipe off clean. Furthermore, this particular fabric is especially nice because the ‘wrong’ side of this fabric looks like a gorgeous bone colored linen. You can’t beat that! There are so many fun projects you can make with vinyl.
And the best part? The ‘vinyl’ like fabric that I used for these projects doesn’t STICK. You heard me, not once did I deal with the fabric sticking to the bottom of my sewing machine foot.
Best fabric ever.
Leaf Applique Pillow
Using vinyl fabric for various shapes can be a lot of fun because you don’t have to worry about fraying, or lining, or any other time extensive process. You can simply place the shape on your fabric and sew. Which is how I came up with this fun little leaf appliqué pillow.
MATERIALS:
- Vinyl Fabric, I used THIS Platinum Linen.
- Pillow Form or Polyfil
- Basic Sewing Essentials
STEP ONE:
Cut (2) squares your desired pillow size, including seam allowance. Cut (1) leaf appliqué shape. I simply googled ‘ leaf silhouette’ and traced around it.
STEP TWO:
Place leaf applique on top of the right side of (1) pillow square, pin in place and sew around the edges.
STEP THREE:
Place pillow squares right sides together, and sew around the edges leaving a 5″ opening for turning. Turn right side out and push out all corners. Press with iron on low setting.
STEP FOUR:
Stuff pillow with Polyfil or Pillow Form. Pin opening closed, and whipstitch.
And you are finished!
Washi Tape Pillow
After being completely inspired by my good friend Kami’s new Washi Tape Christmas Book, I decided to have some fun with this fabulous craft product. You may not think of wash tape generally while sewing, as it wouldn’t attach to normal fabric very well. But when working with vinyl fabric like I am, it is PERFECT.
MATERIALS:
