When did my eldest get so BIG?! Sigh, I just want her to stop growing now. It’s funny, when they are little – all I can think (during the hard times) is the day when I will have some free time again, or the day I can take them shopping with me and we can spend ‘girl time’ together. But now that it is actually happening – I just want to scream SLOW DOWN!!! I am clinging to these last few years of youthfulness with both hands, and possibly my feet too, because it is all happening just so dang fast.
This past Summer Chloe went through a major growth spurt, and when Fall finally did arrive here in Virginia Beach – we found ourselves without any proper dresses to wear. So when Abby of Sew Much Ado invited me to be on her Pretty in Peplum tour, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to get to work.
Pretty in Peplum.
We are taking car of my Mom’s dog for the next few weeks, and these two are like best buds. Chloe helped pick out as a puppy for my Mom, and they love each other so much. They simply needed to take the photos together :).
The Pretty in Peplum Dress by Sew Much Ado is perfect because it is dressy, while still being comfortable. And I love that for kids. Chloe can wear this to church, or for family events, and I know that she feels great running around like a KID in a gorgeous dress made just for her. The fit is perfect, like really, truly perfect. And I was shocked about the length. I swear I made this dress and took one look at it thinking it looked too long. But nope, that is perfect too!
The fabric used for this dress is a gorgeous knit from Girl Charlee, from their new King Fisher Collection, called Coral Peach Floral on Slate. Girl Charlee is generously sponsoring the Pretty in Peplum Tour, and allowed me to pick out the fabric to use for the making of this dress.
This may come as a surprise to you, but I had yet to order from Girl Charlee. SHOCKER, I know. I had filled up my shopping cart loads of times, but always chickened out at the last minute and considered it ‘window’ shopping. So I was truly excited to get this fabric to try, and see the quality of it for myself. It was honestly, quite good. The weight was perfect, a cotton jersey knit blend, that was not so heavy that it weighed the dress down, yet not so light that it gave me a hard time with wonky seams when sewing. It was right in the middle, and perfect to work with. Furthermore, I am in LOVE with this print. How can you not be?!!
I highly recommend both this pattern and the fabric. They were both perfection to use, and I am already dreaming up more Pretty in Peplum tops and dresses. This is a pattern that will stay with me for a few years, I can already tell.
And as for Chloe…
She really is growing up, into a smart, talented, kind spirited, loving and beautiful inside and out human being, who blazes light everywhere she goes. And I couldn’t be more proud.

Because we all need more good knit fabric in our lives.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
Happy Sewing!
Ha Ha! I’ve had that fabric in my cart at Girl Charlee several times! I love it too…and it fits that pattern perfectly. (We sewed with Girl Charlee on the blog today too!)
I saw and it HAD to have it!!! haha, funny how some fabrics just call to you 🙂
What a sophisticated little dress! Perhaps the dress itself makes Chloe look even more grown up?
I’ll be really curious how the Girl Charlee fabric holds up for you. I have used GC fabric in the past, though not for the tour, because my experience was that it looks lovely and feels great… until you wash it. Then mine faded a lot and pilled up horribly! Some leggings I made pilled up so much I had to throw them and two skaters dress that I made are just so, so pilly. I am fastidious with my laundry and care of my clothes and frankly, super disappointed. I’d love to know what your experience is. 🙂
I was curious about that too Rachel, as I had heard the rumors. So far I have washed this dress once, normal cycle in washer and dryer, and it still looks great! But I will definitely be keeping an eye out. I have been happy with this fabric, and so long as it holds up in the wash the next few cycles – I will definitely buy from Girl Charlee again!
And yes, Chloe is just sprouting before my eyes. I just want her to STOP. She has gone through a major growth spurt the past few months, and is maturing so much. Just stop stop stop stop stop!!!
Gorgeous Jess! Chloe is so adorable, and that fabric is perfect! Thanks so much for joining in on the tour!
SUUUCH a great version. LOVE that fabric!! I have bought a lot from GC and have good experiences. I only buy natural fibers so maybe that is something to go for at their site??!
