With the holidays around the corner, and the need for some fancier attire, I decided to have some fun with the Julia Cardigan pattern by Welcome to the Mouse House. After stumbling across this awesome sequin fabric at my local Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores, with my 40% off coupon in hand, I knew what needed to be done.
The Sequin Julia Cardigan.
The pattern was fabulous to work with, and the fit is spot on. I made a few alterations to accommodate the sequin fabric I was working with. Such as adding a full lining, so it wouldn’t be itchy. And cutting the cotton facing / hem in half as I wanted to make the sequins the star of the show. I also ended up whipstitching the entire facing / hem in place, as I didn’t want an edge stitch to show around the sequins. It took more time, but was worth it. The sequin Julia Cardigan makes the perfect comfortable, yet classy New Years Eve ensemble.
If you haven’t tried sewing with sequins yet, this fabric was awesome to work with. Sequins can be tricky, as you have to worry about bulky seams, removing sequins by hand, and often times sewing by hand. But this particular fabric had a lot of tiny sequins super close together, which eliminated the need to do any of those things. I could simply sew as I normally would, using a regular heavy duty needle. Just remember to replace your needle when you are done – as sewing with sequins definitely dulls the point.
The Julia Cardigan is a part of this month’s Pattern Member bundle. Get 3 patterns for just $10 per month. But act fast, these patterns will only be available at that price for the month of November. Come December, a brand new set will be released. Yeah!
