Somehow I seem to have fallen off the sewing wagon for little man, and it was time to get back on. Over the past 2 – 3 months we have been working really hard at potty training Ben. I know each child is different, but Ben Ben Ben Ben Ben Ben Ben. So much tougher than the girls. I have never cleaned up so much poop in my life.
But I digress. Now that we are on the other side of the potty training hump, we are in dire need of elastic waist pants this Fall & Winter. Pants that he can easily slip on and off, and not be fumbling with a too-tight waist.
Enter – The Surfer Slacks.
I made the Surfer Slacks once before almost a year and a half ago for my eldest daughter. So I knew this pattern was perfect for a nice, loose fitting pant, that would be stylish and comfortable. As well as easy for Ben to manage on his own.
I happened to have a beautiful wool on hand, leftover from the Goodship Dress I sewed almost 2 years ago. (I know, right?! I am being clever and thrifty all over the place!). In order to make the slacks not itch, I fully lined the inside with a soft knit. This made the pants more comfortable on baby’s skin, and ensured that because of the double layer he could wear them all Winter long.
Don’t even get me started on the fact that my leg cuff stripes don’t match up. So so so mad about that one. I am still considering pulling out my handy dandy seam ripper and going to town.
I love these pants on little man.
I love the fact that because of the leg cuff, these pants will grow with him. I love the fact that the back pockets are ginormous, making them oh so cute. And I love the waistband, that they are yoga style – yet still have elastic in them. The pattern is a quick sew, and perfect for little hands that want to dress themselves.
