Before our trip to Florida, you were likely to find me in my sewing studio sewing like a fiend in order to get these comfortable princess dresses done in time! After all, what could be worse than walking around Florida in 100+ degree heat in a long sleeve polyester dress. I mean….seriously. I sweat just thinking about it. So after getting the Skater Dress pattern for this month’s Pattern Member – I knew I had the perfect pattern hack project on my hands.
Skater Dress Pattern Hack – Comfortable Princess Dress
I used the Little Girl’s Skater Dress by Kitschy Coo Patterns to make all of these Disney princess inspired dresses (and one shirt). And to tell you the truth, I could’ve kept going! But for all the humanity, 5 was enough. With just a little bit of imagination, I truly think you could use this sewing pattern to make just about any princess dress your heart desires.
Here we are at Disneyworld wearing our awesome, COMFORTABLE, dresses….
Thanks goodness Ariel was hang in in her grotto, we all got a little shade meeting her. She was Chloe’s number one ‘must meet‘ pick. And by the way, did you know she has a brand new ride? Gah. Coming from a girl who grew up with this princess movie, it was awesome.
Maddy was not having it with the photos. The entire trip I had to sneak attack her into taking any shot. Here she is upon arriving at Disney, pre-soaking wet sweat dress.
Here she is after sweating, lol – it was hot. Rapunzel was her numero uno princess meet and greet. Once again – give it up to the princesses who are indoors for the autograph signing! Woot woot.
And of course, who can go to Disneyworld and not meet the infamous Anna & Elsa.
We waited just shy of 90 minutes, and it was worth every minute. (Well, I may not have been saying that at the time while I was waiting.) But seeing my girl’s faces as they met the dynamic duo – I just about melted. Pun intended Olaf. Seriously though, Anna was there waiting for us as soon as we walked through the door with her arms open wide for the hug. And Elsa…she may have given some of her ice powers to both of my girls. They walked around the park for the rest of the day convinced that their hands were cool to the touch. It. Was. Awesome.
I would like to give a special shout out to my girl…
Seriously though. She was outside in the heat, in that outfit, and was quite possibly the coolest princess ever. So sweet, so encouraging to both of my girls about how powerful and awesome they are, and so energetic, and have I said awesome yet? I am in awe of this princess specifically – all of the others had nice cool caves or rooms to hang out in. She was out there, in the heat, and was happier / nicer / cooler to my girls then the rest combined. Ok – maybe that is over-doing it. But seriously, once again – look at that dress – and imagine wearing it in 100+ degree heat standing in the sun for hours on end. Need I say more. Most awesome princess ever.
As for the Snow White shirt?
Well, that was a gift for a cousin. I didn’t get to see her wear it. But between you and me, it was my favorite of all the Disney princess skater dress pattern hacks. It was the one I would have wanted personally. Lucky for me, the Skater Dress comes in adult sizes too. HA! Maybe next time.
