Breastfeeding. It’s everywhere lately. Whether it is seeing the video of Olivia Wilde dumping breastmilk on her head, hearing about how Anthro kicked out a breastfeeding Mom, or seeing a picture of Giselle breastfeeding her daughter via Instagram, it is all over my Social Media pages. Breastfeeding Awareness week was the first week in August, and the celebs went all out to promote it.
And rightly so, as a Mother who had the ability to breastfeed all 3 of her children – it is truly an amazing experience. One I would wish for everyone who has the ability and desire to do so, could. Of course I know it is not for everybody, and I am totally fine with that. I am not now, nor will I ever be, one of those Moms who shove my opinions on this subject down your throat. Everyone does what is right for their family, so long as that baby is getting fed!
But here is what I did NOT see on my social media feeds…
Breastfeeding Friendly Sewing Patterns.
Naturally, I took this as my rallying call and was duty bound to find a few patterns and DIYs for our currently (or soon-to-be) breastfeeding Mommas out there.

2. Washi Dress Nursing Tops
3. Two-Piece Knit Wrap Nursing Dress (Free Pattern)

5. DIY Modern Nursing Shawl
6. Turn About the Room Dress Tutorial

And there you have it. I’ve got to tell you, those were some tough tutorials to find and round up! Pattern makers…can you hear me? Please start whipping up some cool, new, MODERN nursing shirts. There is a definite need. I know we can all simply lift up the hem of our shirt and go to town. But really? It’s always nice to have options!
At the end of the day though, one thing we can all agree on is that Mothers in general are superheros, breastfeeding or not.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
Happy Sewing!
