Have you heard of Willow & Co. yet?
Willow & Co. is a new pattern collective that mixes the creative talents of 8 incredible designers, all aimed at releasing modern seasonal clothing lines for little ones. I am particularly fond of this new pattern group launch because 3 of the members happen to be 2013 Sewing Rabbit Team members! Our very own Mie of Sewing Like Mad, Elisa of Charming Doodle, and Celina of Petit a Petit are all a part of this new venture – and I am seriously so proud of what they have put together!
Their inaugural collection, ‘Wanderlust’, is receiving rave reviews and accolades from fans and readers alike, and it couldn’t be more well deserved.
I had the opportunity to sew up one of the patterns as part of their Pattern Tour, and chose the Ash Jumpsuit by my good friend Celina.
The Ash Jumpsuit – Willow & Co.
I happen to have a soft spot in my heart for jumpsuits for some reason. Don’t ask me why, my kids almost never wear them. But something about this one, and Chloe getting older and being easily able to take it off when needing to use the restroom by herself, made me decide to give this one a chance. Furthermore, Celina and I had worked on this Jumpsuit together as part of the Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Store Spring LookBook – so it held extra sentiment for me. Not to mention the fact that…well, I just loved it.
I can honestly say, I loved sewing this pattern. It was thoughtfully put together with attention to detail – and the fit is fabulous. I would say all in all, it took me about 3 – 4 hours to sew – from cut to finish. I probably could have whipped through and sewn this faster, but I really wanted to follow the instructions precisely in order to have the best possible outcome. Which most of you know, is not exactly my sewing type – I am more of a ‘fast and furious’ seamstress. Lol. But I am happy that I took my time on this one.
With Chloe getting older, and wearing her handmade creations to school, I don’t want her in ‘sloppy sewing’. It is one thing to put a pillowcase dress on a 3 year old and call it cute – 3 year olds look cute in anything! But as your kids get older, their tastes get more specific, and what they wear becomes a little bit more defined. If she is going to wear something handmade to school, I want her to feel completely comfortable in it and know that she will look fabulous next to any store-bought outfit.
I would say the Ash Jumpsuit meets all of that criteria, and then some.
Some of my faves about this Pattern:
- Attention to detail in the instructions (with links for further clarification).
- Attention to detail in the pattern (notches, facings, etc).
- Great fit on my 7, almost 8 year old.
- Easy to get on / off with the elastic neckline (not ties), so my child can do it herself.
- Large variety in the pattern options (long or short jumpsuit, separates).
- An experienced beginner can sew this pattern (no zippers, buttons, etc).
- Age appropriate design (good for my older child, while still being a KID design).
If I had to name a negative to the pattern, it would be the very same thing I rave about. The detail. As a fast and furious seamstress – and Mie is going to kill me when she hears this – I cut ALL of my notches straight off. Lol. I have always hated notches, they take way too much time to cut out in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, on some patterns they are a necessary evil, and they are indeed used well on this pattern – they aren’t notches for notches sake. I am just lucky that I know how to sew well enough that I don’t need them for guidance. But is that really a drawback? No. That is just a personal preference and was no sweat off my back to ignore. (I also used ALL WHITE SERGER THREAD Mie – so there! Lol).
All Willow & Co. patterns go through a rigorous screening process to give them this perfect attention to detail, so you can rest assured that when buying one of their patterns – it will have been made with the utmost care.
The Ash Jumpsuit was truly a pleasure to work with, and I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to be a part of the Glamping Tour, honoring some of my friends from last year’s team. They truly did a fantastic job with this entire collection.
