I am so excited to be writing this post today!!! Many of you know the incredible Lindsay Wilkes of the Cottage Mama, she is quite possibly one of the most amazing sewing bloggers out there. This talented Momma was one of the first sewing blogs I ever found, followed, and loved. Her classic style shines through in everything she does, bringing the timeless looks of hand-sewn apparel to today’s generation. I probably love her most for her talent at fabric pairings, she has an eye that is unmatched at mixing and pairing various fabrics and notions, and creating something absolutely eye-catching and beautiful from it. Add that all with her attention to detail, gorgeous editorial photography, cute as a button kids, fabulous sewing tutorials and patterns…and you get a woman to be reckoned with! I had the absolute privilege of getting to room with Lindsay at Alt Summit, and I can honestly say she embodies everything she puts out there on the blog. She is the real deal folks, a true inspiration and cheerleader for others out there. I am honored to call her friend!
Now that I have gushed enough, and probably told you everything you already knew…let me tell you something you may not know yet. She recently released her very first book!!!
As with everything Lindsay does, this book is phenomenal! Just flipping through it brings one gorgeous photo shoot after another. But it is so much more than the perfect coffee-table book for us sewing lovers. This book is chock full of good stuff! With 20 different dresses, outfits, and accessories patterns and tutorials, there is something for everyone. And her patterns range from Summer to Winter, so it will literally bring you through the year!
This one is my personal favorite, the Little Lady Coat. Look at that attention to detail, it is simply stunning!!! The turned down pockets with revealing fabric, the tie around the neckline, the slightly puffed sleeve and optional ruffle sleeve hem. I love every little thing about this coat!!!!
But the great thing about Lindsay’s Sew Classic Clothes for Kids book, is that it offers so much more than just great patterns. Lindsay gives it her all, and truly brings in all of her perfectionist details for the writing. Offering not only the patterns, but how you can pair fabrics like a pro, talking about notions, sewing techniques, and more. She even manages to teach me a few tricks along the way!
I don’t work with piping often, so I have much to learn about this notion. But I found this tip to be particularly useful! Talk about making your project easier as your sew.
And all of projects come with the same attention to detail, with gorgeous photo after photo.
I highly recommend you check out the Sew Classic Clothes for Girls book by Lindsay Wilkes, the Cottage Mama. It makes the perfect Christmas gift for the sewing lover in your life.
