Today’s sewing tutorial was inspired by an image I had pinned on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago, that I just couldn’t get out of my head. A fun, slightly sexy, circle skirt with elastic shorts underneath. There was something so intriguing, so sophisticated, yet so simple about this skirt that I just fell in love with it. Finally I broke down and ran to the fabric store to scour the eyelet section. Hello Peek-a-boo leg…
Making this skirt couldn’t have been easier, and I am in love with the results. Let me show you how it was done.
Eyelet Circle Skirt DIY.
How to sew an Eyelet Circle Skirt
- 1.5 yards of 60″ wide eyelet fabric
- 2″ – 3″ wide elastic
- XXL T-Shirt for recycling purposes
- Sweatpants to trace around for pattern
- Basic sewing essentials
You will need to follow along with Dana’s Circle Skirt Tutorial found here for the basic sewing of the circle skirt itself.
Her tutorial will show you how to measure your fabric for cutting out the exterior circle skirt – as well as how to sew it onto the waistband.
Once you have the large circle cut, follow along below to get your Built in Leggings, or elastic shorts…
Once you have your shorts inside the circle skirt, simply attach the elastic waistband just as Dana’s tutorial instructs. Stretch out the inside leggings to match the skirt by pinning around the 4 edges when attaching to the waistband.
* Side Note – because you are adding leggings underneath this skirt, there is a limitation to how high you will be able to pull it up. Be sure to take that into consideration when cutting out your pattern, allotting room for an extra-high waistband if you like your skirt to sit on your natural waist!
And there you have it, a fun circle skirt that you can dress up or down – and still feel like a totally hot mama.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
