Quick & Easy Handmade Gift, 30 Minute Scarf to Skirt

I know most of us are an absolute mess over the tragedy that occurred in Newtown this past Friday. I was and am still very, very confused and angry. But as I was in church singing this past Sunday I broke down.

“In Your presence Lord I will find my strength.”

I will not talk about it on the blog, not yet at least. I am not ready, nor do I know if I ever will be. I am not going to curse the darkness anymore though, it already receives enough glory on its own. Instead I am going to light a candle so the light can shine.

—————————-

Did you fall off the handmade gift giving boat like I did this year? Don’t fret! This week I will be sharing with you some quick and easy handmade gifts you can whip up for the loved ones in your life, that all take under an hour!

Today I have something you can make for the little girl in your life, with items you more than likely already have lying around your house! This skirt takes less than 30 minutes to sew together, and utilizes the scarf’s pre-existing hems to really give the skirt a professional look and feel.

I came up with this when my daughter had a school holiday performance coming up, and I realized I was short on time. Looking around to see what I had on hand, I stumbled across this scarf.

I never wore it because the sequins were itchy around my neck, so it had just sort of been sitting in my closet collecting dust. This skirt was a fabulous refashion and uses the latest trends in sequins and fringe, all made to look adorable on my little girl!  And might I just say, it is super easy to make!

Let me go into a little more detail…

Now all you need to do is add the waistband!  I used some leftover sweater fabric I had lying around to really make it soft on my daughter’s waist.

And there you have it, a super easy skirt that takes less than 30 minutes to make and costs $0. You can’t beat that!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…

Happy Sewing!

This is such a fantastic idea! I love the scarf, and it looks great as a skirt. I’m always seeing scarves for cheap at thrift stores or even places like Walmart . . . this would be a great way to use them! I need a girl to sew for 🙂

That is such a cute idea. I think I will be on the look out for some scarves over the next few weeks. And I think I might dig into my lace stash, and make a simple white under skirt with some lace on the bottom. How cute would that be?
Love the new design. And I agree. Enough dwelling on the dark. Lets find the light and let it shine, so others might find their light.

Pretty skirt! I broke down in church singing the Hallelujah Chorus. You’re right about darkness- darkness can’t repel darkness- only light can- even the very smallest light.
