Heidi from Elegance and Elephants: Pleated Pocket Capris {tutorial}

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of today’s guest…

Heidi from Elegance and Elephants (or you may know her as Homemade by Heidi, which is where I first met her) has been rocking my features list for the past month now with her awesome creations, and I have been loving every minute of it!

Ever since these incredible fashions caught my eye, I haven’t been able to look away…

This prolific seamstress has such cute style for her little ones, and I just love it all!

And you won’t be disappointed when you see what she has for you today :). I hope you will join me in welcoming today’s honored guest, Heidi from Elegance and Elephants!

————————————————————-

Hello, Me Sew Crazy readers!  I am so excited to be here sharing a tutorial with you.  My name is Heidi, and I am a Canadian stay-at-home mom who blogs at Elegance & Elephants, a place where I share my handmade endeavours.  While I dabble in many homemade projects from cooking to crafting, my greatest passion lies in sewing garments and toys for my children Anja (1 1/2 years) & Tobias (4 years).
Anja is at the stage where she is still pretty new at walking and to help protect her little knees from scrapes, I decided to come up with some little capri pants.  I didn’t give specific sizes, but if you need to know exactly what I did in order to made your own, just let me know!
Here’s what I came up with:
**each pocket pleat is half an inch wide, so keep that in mind as you cut your front piece.**

**I like to cut the waistband out after stitching the front to back, trying it on, and making any adjustments, just to make sure it will fit well.**
Thank you so much for having me here today, Jessica & Me Sew Crazy readers!!
I would love it if you stopped by

Elegance & Elephants

to say hello!

(If you’re interested in the tutorial for the tunic that Anja is wearing, it’s here.)

————————————————————-

Those shorts are just the cutest Heidi! I really love how you made the pocket, such a fantastic little touch of detail to really make them come to life. And that piping – gah, I love it!

You can find all things Elegance & Elephants at:

Thank you again so much for being here Heidi, it was an honor to have you!

And thank you so much for stopping by, until next time…

Happy Sewing!

Thank you, Jessica, for posting my little capris! Having them here on your blog, of which I’m such a huge fan, is beyond amazing! Your support for so many bloggers & DIYers like myself is commendable. While I can’t credit for the skirt on the top left, it did inspired me to create a similar look.

These are so cute Heidi! I’ve never tried your method for contrasting fabric that looks like piping/trim at the pockets and I’m definitely going to have to do it soon. What a great idea!

I loved your tutorial and managed my own version in trouser length which I love. I am a beginner sewer and this was my first pair of trousers which I am delighted with. Your tutorials have inspired me to do more with the sacred nap times. Thank you
