Week Three for Project Run & Play was ‘For the Boy’. With my son being only 3 months old, my entry was for the Baby Boy.
I had recently purchased a small stash of Sarah Jane’s Children at Play fabric, which made it an easy decision to make a super cute button up for the little man in my life.
Using a 3 month shirt I had received as a gift for pattern sizing info, I created this button up pattern for a 3 – 6 month old baby.
Front pocket detail and collar, as well as a back center pleat, gives this little look high sophistication. And the button up front makes it easy to get wobbly heads into and out of the shirt when dressing – lol.
For the colder months, I gave the shirt some longer sleeves by upcycling some of my baby’s newborn size knit leggings. But the tutorial shows you how to use any knit to add to the arm sleeve – for this faux long sleeve T shirt look.
This will make the perfect baby present for the littlest man in your life!
I absolutely love putting it on mine…
Even if he has yet to be wowed by my sewing prowess….

Happy Sewing!
That face!! Too cute. Love the fabric choice. Wish I had a boy so I could make one. Oh well, some friends are expecting a boy in Feb…this would be a great gift!
Aww look at his little face! Seriously cute!

Did you use a cover stitch machine ir a double needle? The shirt is beautiful as well as your model! What a cute face.
nope Georgine – just a regular old sewing machine with a single needle!
wait – i take that back! i did use my serger on the seams…but it isn’t necessary if you zig zag stitch them to prevent fraying!
This is awesome. Thanks for the tutorial : )
So so cute! I envy your creative genius of using leggings as sleeves. I also need to meet this little guy who has already perfected the Blue Steel look…let’s play soon!
This looks great and he is soooooooo adorable!!!

I LOVE the Sarah Jane Children at play collection! I just finished a dress for my daughter out of one of the fabrics. I love your boys shirt too!
Adorable! What a little cutie!
how sweet love the outfit 🙂
You seriously are a gift from heaven! These tutorials are like a dream! THANK YOU!
Your tutorial and pattern are fabulous 🙂 I whipped one up for my soon to be nephew and its turned out great 🙂
Do you know what seam allowance you use? I am making this and the collar isn’t matching up with the neck, the collar is too short. But I’m wondering if i used too small of a seam allowance so my shirt is wider than it should be maybe. ..
I usually use 3/8″. That being said, the collar should be shorter than the neckline when you are initially sewing, as you will fold in the front to make the button placket.
Hope this helps! Thanks!
I simply couldn’t depart your web site prior to suggesting that I actually loved the standard information an individual supply in your visitors? Is going to be again steadily in order to check out new posts
I just found this lovely tutorial. Thank you. Very generous and nicely done
Thank you for the pattern and tutorial!! I’m sewing one up as we speak – one question though. You give directions for the button placket once. Do I repeat for the second side? I imagine so, but don’t want to make an oops. Also, do the button placket and collar need interfacing?
This is so cute! I’m going to make it up in a flannel Avengers fabric I found on sale, and make a pair of your baby boy snap cargo pants to match – we’ve got friends who’ve just had their first baby, and the dad is a bit nerdy like us, so some Avengers pjs seem like the perfect option! Thanks so much!
Love this. Any possibility that you could make the partern for lather boys? (1 year old…)
Older, not lather…:-P
Thanks! Nice pattern! See my result on http://sonaais.blogspot.be/2016/06/nachthemd.html
Is the pattern no longer available for free for this shirt? The link to the pdf is for instructions only, there is no pattern to print. I can’t find it.
