With this week’s Challenge for Project Run & Play being Halloween or Harvest inspired, I really put a lot of thought into what I wanted to create. And after hours and hours spent trying to come up with a creative, yet runway inspired costume…I decided to go with the Harvest route – Lol.
I have striven to stay true to myself throughout the competition, because I didn’t want to end up with a bunch of clothes my daughters wouldn’t wear at the end. And I feel blessed to have made it through this far. After all, these ladies I am competing against are amazing – and absolutely blowing me away week after week!
With the challenge this week being slightly more fantastical in theme, I thought it would be the week where I pushed myself ever so slightly outside of the box. After all, when will my daughter ever actually wear this dress? Unless there is some Fall Harvest fair that she can walk in the Parade for…Lol.
With that being said, I really do love it! I kept its lines very streamlined and clean, with a fit that was tailored to my daughter’s body exactly. The high neckline and cap sleeves, give it a sleek square look on top, that work with the sleek lines of the off kilter circle skirt on bottom. I thought it would be fun to add an alternate fabric as the lining for the skirt, and I love the pop of color it brings to this dress! I also made the belt with the same fabric as the bias trim, as I didn’t want to give the dress to many different colors and take away from the classy feel of it! Then added a button placket closure all along the back – with 17 buttons in total from top to bottom. Lastly I hand cut the leaf applique, and sewed the thread in a way that would imitate the leaf’s veins.
This dress was one of the more time consuming creations I have ever made, but I think it was all of the fittings I made my daughter endure in order to get the perfect fit! That…and the cutting out and sewing on of all of those leaves! Not to mention the buttonholes and buttons…Lol. Let’s just say I finally figured out the button foot on my sewing machine!
My Harvest Princess…
With a combat boot twist 🙂
That’s my girl!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and I do hope you will head on over to Project Run & Play and VOTE for your favorite look!
Until next time…
