Beach Blanket DIY

I love quilts! I hate quilting…

A homemade quilt is probably my favorite present to receive! The time and patience and work that goes into making them, the skill, it just blows me away every single time!!!

But the act of quilting myself? Ummm…not so much.

Its a patience thing, I like immediate gratification. And I get bored really easily with the same project…which is why it is hard for me to make the same dress more than once.

When I decided to give quilting a try a couple of years ago, I loaded up on Amy Butler fabric and starting putting together squares. I made it all the way to a King Size quilt top! And then it just sat there, and sat there, and sat there. Two years later I finally got tired of looking at it sitting in my sewing nook, and decided to do something about it!

I basically grabbed some interfacing and plopped it onto the corners, put a quick piece of fabric on the back, and added some grommets onto the corners…and voila!

I now have a great beach quilt that won’t budge from the wind (or from little kiddos feet)!

The best part? If I ever decide to finish making that quilt, all I need to do is cut off the corners and continue! Bonus!

Here we are enjoying a nice Summer day at the beach, pre-baby…

Check out those dolphins in the background!

Saw those after the fact in the picture 🙂

Really dissecting those sand castles here…lol

And of course Gamma is in town to help out when the new bundle arrives…YEAH!

So what’s the moral of today’s post? Lol – Don’t let those half finished quilts get dusty like I did!

Hope everyone is having a great start to the Summer! And until next time, Happy Sewing!

haha, I am so guilty of quilt-starting. At least you made it to a finished top. I started a baby quilt and changed my mind on the color, and turned that into a pillowcase for my four year old. Then I started another one and I went FAST but stopped when I ran out of white. I bought more but haven’t continued making it yet because things have been so crazy hectic! I figure we don’t need it until fall now anyways, right? hehe… At this rate I will be needing a twin size by the time I get around to finishing it. Terrible!

this is awesome! I have a top I could do this to, but we actually don’t go to the beach much, sadly. lol. Maybe I would more if I had a cute quilt to use!

Can I tell you I have the same unfinished quilt! I was going to make it for my daughters bed and never finished. You have inspired me. Plus we live at the beach and this will be perfect. Thank you.
