This has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember! Always cherished by the kids, and the adults all looking at it like we were crazy and they weren’t touching that…lol. They didn’t know what they were missing – SERIOUSLY!!! But I didn’t care, more for me!
Now that I am older with a family of my own, I still cherish this recipe. I still think it tastes fab (think rice crispie treats, but with corn flakes), and it is super easy to make! So when I am in the middle of the ‘Christmas cookie crunch’, this is one I can whip up in no time on top of the stove, while the other cookies are all hogging the oven.
Without further ado, I give you our family’s Christmas Holly…
- 1 Stick Butter
- Bag of Marshmallows
- 4 1/2 Cups Corn Flakes
- 1 tsp. Vanilla
- 2 tsp. Green food coloring
- Red Icing OR cinnamon candies
Melt butter in large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until melted. Add 1 tsp vanilla and 2 tsp Green food coloring. Stir until well blended. Remove from heat. Stir in Corn Flakes until well coated. (*Tip – it helps to coat your spoon with PAM to help reduce stickage – my word – lol). As soon as corn flakes are well coated, drop by tablespoon onto waxed paper. Decorate with either drops of red icing or cinnamon candies to give it the ‘holly’ effect.
Growing up we always used the cinnamon candies, I have switched it to the red icing as the cinnamon started to get on my nerves if I ate too many of them…lol, probably a good thing!
If you are bringing as a gift to someone else, make it fun! Arrange them like a Holly wreath on a plate, and add a little bow on the bottom with a To/From tag!
