Have an old button up shirt that could use a kick? Try embellishing it with ribbon! Using ribbon on the side seams of your button up shirt is a fun way to add some personality to an otherwise plain top. You can do the ‘sew’ or ‘no-sew’ version, and achieve the same results. This embellished button up shirt technique is super simple, and will have you grabbing out all of your old shirts to spruce up.

- Machine Washable Ribbon
- *No-Sew Version* – Fabric Glue
- *Sew Version* – Basic Sewing Essentials
Step One – Gather supplies as listed.
Step Tw0 – Measure your side seam and add 2″. Cut ribbon that length. Fold under the raw edge of your ribbon towards wrong side 1″ and pin in place underneath your armsyce. Bring ribbon all the way down the side seam and continue to pin in place, fold the bottom raw edge underneath the bottom of your shirt and pin.
Step Three – If you are doing the ‘Sew’ version, simply sew around the side edges of the ribbon, and repeat for other side seam. If doing the ‘No-Sew’ version, place a piece of tin foil underneath your shirt to protect the surface you are working on and use fabric glue to secure the ribbon in place and allow to dry. Repeat for other side seam.
